Kinja'd!!!3 Kinja'd!!! 10

The debate ended and what can I say about it other than it was complete bullshit. Candidates spoke about feelings, not facts, they attacked eachother instead of focusing on the nation, and we saw lie after lie go unanswered. Here’s a small summary:

Zavala:
Focused on emotions, did not give out concrete solutions, and tried to attack other contenders with whom she has worked before and is friends with

Rodriguez:
Said criminals should have their hands cut off and focused how shit has changed in one of the richest states not including other factors

Anaya:
Evaded questions like Kellyann Conway, did not go into detail about taxes

Meade:
ignored questions about his former boss, President Peña Nieto and corruption charges

Lopez:
Was silent the entire debate, avoiding questions and never answering to any of his crazy ideas, or friends, or propositions.

Did they go into concrete policy? NO
Did they talk about the feasability? Not enough
Did they fight eachother? Yes
Did they lie? mostly.

Adjusted for the US...

Clinton:
Focused on emotions, did not give out concrete solutions, and tried to attack other contenders with whom she has worked before and is friends with

Trump:
Said criminals should have their hands cut off and focused how shit has changed in one of the richest states not including other factors

Johnson:
Evaded questions like Kellyann Conway, did not go into detail about taxes

Sanders:
ignored questions about his ability to pay for all the free stuff he’s promising, former boss, President Peña Nieto   position at the VA and corruption charges

Jeb!:
Was silent the entire debate, avoiding questions and never answering to any of his crazy ideas, or friends, or propositions.

Defending Bernie a bit, we absolutely can afford healthcare for everyone. The US spends vastly more per capita on healthcare than any any other nation. If we went to a single payer model, we would easily be able to afford it, provided we based it on one of any number of successful systems from around the world (which also have better outcomes than us, it’s not as though we are paying more and getting higher quality care).

Absolutely, but we would need to increase taxes a lot. I like socialism and I’ll be the first one to tell you it’s very expensive but in the end it’s a better plan for some industries like healthcare. The issue I had with all three candidates is that they never went into detail of how they’d pay for it all.

I am not being rude.. but my healthcare cost has only gone up last 3 years or so. I feel, and I could be wrong, that I am paying for a lot of other people’s healthcare.

If you are young, you probably are subsidizing older people’s healthcare. That’s not a huge problem in an entitlement system where you know (or at least have a reasonable expectation) that future generations will subsidize your healthcare, but is definitely weird in a private, market-based system.)

However the big reason you are seeing your healthcare costs jump is that it has been getting vastly more expensive for everyone:

Kinja'd!!!

These steep increases had been hidden because employers generally just absorbed them (a lot of the wage stagnation we’ve experienced has actually been “raises” going into healthcare rather than wages). In recent years though many businesses have abandoned that approach, and have instead been sending increases directly to workers. Obamacare provided a convenient excuse to do so, even though it did very little to change the private system (mainly letting people stay on their parent’s insurance until 26 and eliminating lifetime benefit caps, though from what I read, neither has much effect on insurers bottom line). Increases also look steeper than they are as we are going from plans that were mostly or completely subsidized to ones asking employees to pay more (going from a plan that cost $8,000 a year to a plan that costs $9,000 a year isn’t a catastrophic increase (though it’s certainly not great), but if the employer was subsidizing $7,000 of that, the out of pocket portion would be doubling, which is definitely disconcerting).

I think the issue isn’t paying for other’s health, but for some exec’s bonuses.

However, re working a fifth of the American economy would be impossible anyway, had the Reps respected the ACA premiums wouldn’t have risen as dramatically as they did though.
